Richmond, VA - St. Augustine’s College claimed both the men and women outdoor track & field titles today. The wins mark the fourth consecutive title for the women (1997, 1998 & 1999) and the third (1998 & 1999) for the men. The meet was hosted by Virginia Union University and was held at the newly constructed Richard A. Hollander Track in Richmond, VA.
The Lady Falcons finished the meet with a total score of 171 points followed by Livingstone, 94 points, and North Carolina Central with 59 points. Tynisha Teal and Juliet Brown, both from St. Augustine’s College, as well as, Katerina Glovosa of North Carolina Central shared honors as Most Valuable Track Athletes. Teal placed first in the 100 meter low hurdles, 400 Meter Hurdles and was a member of the winning 4x400 Meter Relay team. Brown finished first in the 200 Meter Dash (NCAA automatic qualifier), 400 Meter Dash & a member of the winning 4x100 Meter Relay team. Glovosa took first place finishes in the 1500 Meter Run, 3000 Meter Run and was a member of the 4x100 & 4x400 Meter Relay teams for NCCU
(3rd place finishes). Most Valuable Field Athlete honors went to Danielle Adams, Johnson C. Smith University, who placed first in the shot put.
The men of St. Augustine’s College amassed 195 points for the day to take home the crown. Virginia State claimed second place with 93 points followed by North Carolina Central University with 65 points and Virginia Union with 47. Robert Williams, N.C. Central, received Most Valuable Track Athlete honors by taking wins in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter Dashes. Lavar Williams, Virginia State University, was named Most Valuable Field Athlete. He displayed much diversity by finishing first in the shot put, second in the discus throw and third in the javelin throw.
