CIAA MEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS FRIDAY

 DURHAM, NC  - The 2000 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men’s Tennis Championship begins on Friday morning at four Durham venues.

Action starts at 9:30 a.m. with Johnson C. Smith, the regular season Western Division champion with a 14-0 record in CIAA play and 22-7 overall, facing Virginia Union at Southern Boundaries Park (Third Fork Road off South Roxboro Road); Saint Augustine’s challenging Shaw at East End Park (Alston Avenue); North Carolina Central playing Saint Paul’s on the NCCU tennis courts (behind McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium); and Virginia State, the regular season Eastern Division champion with a 12-2 record in the CIAA and 13-2 overall, facing Winston-Salem State at Elmira Park (Elmira Avenue off Fayetteville Street).

At the 2:00 p.m. semifinals, the winner of the JCSU vs. VUU match will play the winner of the SAC vs. SU match at East End Park, while the winner of the NCCU vs. SPC match will face the winner of the VSU vs. WSSU match at Elmira Park.

On Saturday at East End Park, the consolation match will start at 8:30 a.m. and the championship match will be held at 11:30 a.m.

Consolation Match (8:30 AM Saturday)
Loser Semifinal #1 vs. Loser Semifinal #2 (East End)

Championship Match (11:30 AM Saturday)
