Food Lion Gets CIAA Corporate Award

May 2, 2000

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has named Food Lion as its recipient of the 1999-2000 Corporate Award of Excellence. "The CIAA is genuinely excited to give this award to such an  outstanding company," said CIAA Commissioner Leon G. Kerry. "Food Lion has been with us for many years and I look forward to working with them for many years to come."

Food Lion's relationship with the CIAA started in 1993 when they became a television media partner with the CIAA Television Network. In 1998, Food Lion expanded the relationship by becoming an official corporate partner with the CIAA.

Food Lion has also been the title sponsor of the 1999 and 2000 CIAA Women's Basketball Tournaments that were held in Winston-Salem and Raleigh, NC, respectively.

Over the years, Food Lion's sponsorship has channeled hundreds of thousands of dollars into television media, scholarships and other promotions. For three years Food Lion has given two VIP trips for two to the annual CIAA Basketball Tournament.

The "Arrive in Style " promotion has been one of the most successful retail promotions that I have seen," said Micah Fuller, Director of Programming, Street & Smith's Productions. "We have helped with the promotion by doing on air mentions during our CIAA regular season and tournament broadcasts. It has been a great relationship for us, the CIAA and Food Lion," he concluded.
