Vikings and Broncos Schedule Gridiron Return to Rocky Mount

Rocky Mount, NC Mayor Fredrick E. Tunage has announced that the Third Annual DownEast Football Classic will be held at the Rocky Mount Athletic Complex Saturday, September 9, 2000.

This year, the Elizabeth City State University Vikings will be host to the Fayetteville State University Broncos in a CIAA -conference game that promises to be an awesome contest.

At the inaugural DownEast Classic in 1998, nearly 7500 fans filled the Rocky Mount Athletic Complex to watch the Broncos defeat the Vikings 10-7. Attendees enjoyed the CIAA game, the college and high school bands, and vendors offering a variety of food and merchandise.

Last year, the game was cancelled due to Hurricane Floyd.

The upcoming 3rd Annual DownEast Classic weekend of festivities will begin Thursday, September 7 and will cumulate Saturday, September 9.

Friday, September 8

Golf Challenge, 11:30 am - shotgun start, 1:00 pm

Punt, Kick & Pass Competition - 4:00 pm

Concert "The Supremes" featuring Mary Wilson, 8:30 pm

Viking/Broncos Alumni Mixer, 10:00 pm - Holiday Inn Ballroom - Gateway

Saturday, September 9

Pan Hellenic Fashion Show Brunch, 10:00 am - location TBA

Football Classic Kickoff - 4:00 pm - Rocky Mount Athletic Complex

Elizabeth City State University vs Fayetteville State University

Post-Game High School Band Competition, Rocky Mount Athletic Complex

Step Show, 8:30 pm - NC Wesleyan College Dunn Center

Viking /Broncos Alumni Extravaganza, 9:00 pm - Gateway Center

Tickets: $12.00 in Advance/$15.00 at Gate
