2000 CIAA COMMISSIONER'S ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM ANNOUNCED

        HAMPTON, VA -- Twenty student-athletes from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association have been named to the third annual CIAA Commissioner. s All-Academic Team, the CIAA announced Monday (May 15).

        . I commend each of these students for their hard work and determination both on and off the playing field,. said CIAA Commissioner Leon G. Kerry.  . It is my hope that this team will be the examples of the standard of excellence we promote through out the CIAA. It is important that we highlight the academic achievements as well as the athletic accomplishments demonstrated by our student-athletes, for this is truly a deserving honor..
 
        The 2000 CIAA Commissioner. s All-Academic Team consists of 20 student-athletes, 10 on the First Team and 10 on the Second Team, as voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors. Association.  The average grade
point average of the First Team is a 3.799, and the average for the Second Team is a 3.579 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
 
        The 2000 CIAA Commissioner. s All-Academic First Team consists of Beverly Winstead of Bowie State; Monica Jacobs of Fayetteville State; Ronneshia Brown of Johnson C. Smith; Katerina Glosova, Lisa Hicks and Rachelle Zastoupil of North Carolina Central; Akin Ayorinda Minnis of Saint Augustine. s; Tanika Grant of Saint Paul. s; Marsha Tennant of Shaw; and Jenee Tucker of Virginia Union.
 
        The 2000 CIAA Commissioner. s All-Academic Second Team includes Rayshawn Askew of Elizabeth City State; Rhoshawnnah Clark of FSU; Lanelle Turner of NCCU; Portia Joyner of St. Paul. s; LaTanya McDaniel of Shaw; Kevin Parker of Virginia State; Lucinda Brown and Joy Carrington of Virginia Union; and Jennifer Clark and Candice Idol of Winston-Salem State.
 
        To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at a CIAA institution, earned a minimum 3.20 overall grade point average, and played as a starter of important reserve in a CIAA sanctioned sport.
