Saint Augustine's College dominates National Champions
NCCU's Smoots wins 55 meter dash

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Saint Augustine's College brings home National titles in both Men's and Women's Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Reggie Lewis Center, Boston, Massachusetts, March 8-10, 2001.

The Lady Falcons posted a total score of 63 points with Abilene Christian scoring a far second with 48. While Saint Augustine's College's men scored 74 points, their nearest opponent, New York Technology, posted a score of 48.

George Williams, Head Coach for both the men's and women's programs is named the NCAA Men's and Women's Division II Coach of the Year.

North Carolina Central's Jason won the Men's 55 meter dash with a time of 6.26.

Tim Rusan, a junior for SAC, received the NCAA Division II Men's Athlete of the Year award. Russan is also the 2001 Division II National Long Jump and Triple Jump champion posting scores of 16.45 and 7.5, respectively.

Carlene Cummings, also for Saint Augustine's, represented the Southeast Region as the NCAA Division II Women Athlete of the Year. Cummings placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.38 meters and third in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 7.01

The Lady Falcons, 4X4 Meter Relay team, (Kea Davis, Georgia Millings, Shaker Rutherford, Florence Hunt) took gold with a winning time of 3:44.69, while the men's 4x 400 (Prince Huffman, Marquette Tardy, Torn Chavez, Stephan Demerits) placed second at 3:12.23.

Other medal awardees, Stephan Demerits in Men's 400 meter dash completed the race in third with a time of 48.10.60. Marquis Davis placed second in the 55 meter dash at 6.26.
