CIAA and SIAC minds meet

November 23, 2000

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association Commissioners had a meeting of the minds prior to the Pioneer Bowl Press Conference in the Georgia Dome, last Friday.

Commissioners
Robert Vowels and Leon Kerry
Leon G. Kerry, the CIAA Commissioner for the last 10 years, seeks to capture the audience, fanfare and the gate of the default Heritage Bowl. "Robert and I stand together to make the Pioneer Bowl a viable post-season contest in Black College Sports," declares Kerry.

Robert C. Vowels, Jr in his first year at the helm of the SIAC, is enthusiastic and ready for the challenges of preparing for the Bowl game, " The Pioneer Bowl was one the largest portions on my plate when I first came to the SIAC, it's been a challenge, but a challenge we can handle."

With the dedicated fans of the SIAC, the strong fan base of the CIAA, and the inclusion of a comedy show on Friday, along with the free gospel concert following the game will make this an event both conferences can be proud of.

Coming off an impressive 8,000 plus crowd for CIAA Championship game in Durham, the CIAA is disappointed with the non-invitation to the NCAA playoffs but is delighted to be able to showcase it's best team in the George Dome, December 16, " We are ready for a repeat of last year", says Kerry, "Bring the crown home."
