North Carolina Central University junior center Amba Kongolo has been selected to the 2001 Daktronics Inc./CoSIDA NCAA Division II All-South Atlantic Region First Team, as chosen by the regional sports information directors.

Kongolo and the other First Team honorees are now eligible for All-America recognition, to be voted on by CoSIDA members later this month.

As the leading scorer and shot blocker in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), Kongolo was crowned as the 2001 CIAA WomenÕs Basketball Player of the Year, as well as earning First Team All-CIAA honors. The 6-foot-3 center also led the Lady Eagles into the championship game of the conference tournament, receiving a spot on the CIAA All-Tournament Team.

A native of Kinshasa, Congo, Kongolo is currently averaging 17.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. She has amassed 15 double-doubles in 29 games so far this season.

NCCU (24-5) received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional Championship at Columbus (GA) State University, beginning March 8. So, Kongolo will have the chance to improve upon her single-season school record 515 points (since 1986).
