Football Championship Tickets Go On Sale As Division Races Go Down To The Wire

Hampton, VA - The CIAA Football Championship Game is less than three weeks away, and many scenarios exist as far as who will be the game's participants. Saturday's two key contests will dictate a great deal in regards to the championship game.

In the East, Virginia Union and Virginia State will battle in the "Gold Bowl" for the division crown. In the West, Winston-Salem State travels to Johnson C. Smith in a matchup that could decide the West's division winner.

One thing is for certain is that tickets are on sale now for $15. Tickets can be purchased at all CIAA institutions, or by calling the CIAA office at 757-865-0071.

The following are the scenarios for the four competing teams (conference records in parenthesis):
EAST:
Virginia Union (4-1)

  • 1) If the Panthers defeat Virginia Stats, they will clinch the eastern division crown. If this scenario occurs, they will finish the year with just one loss due to the fact their final game at Fayetteville State does not count toward the league standings.

  • 2) If the Panthers lose, they will be mathematically eliminated from the division contention.

    • Virginia State (3-1)

  • If the Trojans defeat Virginia Union, they will clinch the eastern division crown. If this scenarion occurs, they will hand VUU its second conference loss. Threfore, even if they fall at Bowie State on November 4, VSU will win the east based upon a head to head tiebreaker with the Panthers.

    • WEST:
    Johnson C. Smith (2-2)

  • 1) If the Golden Bulls defeat Winston-Salem State, they must then defeat North Carolina Central on November 4 to clinch the west. If they fall to the Rams, they will be automatically eliminated from contention.

    • Winston-Salem State (4-1)

  • 1) If the Rams defeat JCSU, they will clinch the western crown. Their final game at Elizabeth City State does not count toward the league standings.

  • 2) If the Rams lose, they can still win the division if JCSU falls to NCCU on November 4.
