Golf competitions will be on the greens of Bull’s Creek, Louisburg, North Carolina, Thursday, April 19-20, 2001. Practice rounds will take place Wednesday with championship competition teeing off on Thursday with 7 teams pairing of in threesomes for 18 holes a day. The awards ceremony will follow the finals on Saturday.
Tennis
April 20-21, 2001
Raleigh, North Carolina
Raleigh will have the pleasure of hosting the new CIAA Tennis format of flight competition on the courts of Biltmore Hills and Lions Park April 19-21, 2001. Three flights of doubles among seven teams begin on Thursday and six flights of singles continue on Friday and Saturday.
This will be the first year that individual achievements will be calculated with their team’s points to determine the 2001 CIAA Champion. Previously, if an outstanding performer’s team was eliminated then they departed from competition as well. With the new flight competition, individuals will be rewarded for their endurance as well as add points for their school.
"This is great for the CIAA schools; this will enhance the recruiting and stability of our tennis programs, and will hopefully resurrect some dwelling programs," says Leon G. Kerry, CIAA Commissioner.
Outdoor Track and Field Championships
April 20-21, 2001
Durham, North Carolina
The 2001 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) national champions, the Falcons and Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's College are favorites of the 2001 CIAA Outdoor Championships, to be held April 20-21, at North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina.
Field events will take place noon on Friday, followed with the race trials at 2 pm. Championship Saturday will continue with field events at 10 am with the women’s 4X100 relay kicking off the races at 12 noon. The last event is scheduled for 3:40 pm.
Softball
April 26-28, 2001
Raleigh, North Carolina
The following week features CIAA Softball and Baseball Championships, April 26-28, 2001.
Softball will be held at the Walnut Creek Complex, Raleigh, NC with the top four teams in each division competing in double elimination action.
Contests will begin at 12 noon on four fields on Thursday, with two games following the approximate schedule of 10:00 am and 2:30 am. Resuming on Friday, competition will continue with two games at 12:30 pm, one game at 2 pm and one game at 4:00 pm. Championship Saturday has semi-finals at 10:00 am and the championship game at 2:00 pm.
Baseball
April 26-28, 2001
Petersburg, Virginia
Petersburg will host the battle of CIAA baseball, five teams competing in a double elimination tourney to be named the 2001 CIAA Champion. On Thursday, two games will be laying simultaneously on the fields of Virginia State University and the Petersburg Complex at 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Virginia State’s Whaley M. Colbert Field, will be the sole host for the rest of the tournament beginning Friday with competitions at 10 am, 12 pm and 3 pm. At high noon on Saturday, the championship showdown begins.
