Eagles Hold Off Bears To Remain Undefeated

North Carolina Central 37, Shaw 31
Adrian Warren passed for four first half touchdowns as the North Carolina Central Eagles jumped out to a 31-7 second quarter lead and held off a furious fourth quarter comeback to post a 37-31 win over Eastern Division rival Shaw. Trailing 7-0 after a 12-yard touchdown run by Shaw’s Jermonty Kimbrough, Warren tossed touchdown passes of 44 and 3 yards to Torey Ross and also connected with Charles Futrell and Julius McClellan for scores as the Eagles scored 31 unanswered points and lead 31-10 at the half. North Carolina Central would add to their lead in the third quarter when Brandon Gilbert connected on a 34-yard field goal to extend the lead to 34-10. The Bears would rally in the fourth quarter behind the passing of Kimbrough and some drive sustaining penalties by the Eagles. Kimbrough threw touchdown passes to Anthony Frost and Daniel Jackson and Reggie Price scored on a 4-yard run as Shaw cut NCCU’s lead to 37-31 with 5:28 remaining in the game. North Carolina Central would be forced to punt on their next possession, giving the Shaw the ball back at their own 16-yard line with 1:53 remaining in the game, but an errant passed by Kimbrough was picked off the Eagle’s JR Tanner to thwart Shaw’s rally. With the win, North Carolina Central improves to 4-0, 1-0, while Shaw drops to 1-3, 0-1.
