St. Augustine's Men, Women retain CIAA Track & Field TitlesApril 23, 2005 PETERSBURG,
VA – Saint Augustine’s College defended its men’s and
women’s conference championship titles by cruising to team victories
at the 2005 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field
Championships at Rogers Stadium on the campus of Virginia State University
in Petersburg, Virginia, on Saturday (April 23).
Doris
Thompson of St. Augustine’s repeated as the Most Outstanding Female
Field Athlete by winning the shot put (13.34 meters) and discus throw (40.94m)
for the second straight year, and placing second in the javelin throw (30.76m).
Fellow Lady Falcon Johnsie Liles was awarded Most Outstanding Female Track
Athlete honors after winning the 200-meter dash (24.81) and 400m dash (54.75),
while also running a leg of the second place 4x400m relay squad. NCCU’s
Yolanda Barber was just one point shy of Liles after winning the 800m (2:21.71)
and 1500m (5:01.00) runs, but finishing in third place as a member of the
4x400m relay.
Patrick
Wright of Livingstone College earned his third consecutive award as Most
Outstanding Male Field Athlete after winning the shot put (14.47m) and discus
throw (42.86) for the third straight year, while also placing fourth in the
javelin throw (43.88m). Andre
