Guinn Tops 1,000 Career Points As WSSU Downs Livingstone 66-59 In OTFebruary 16, 2005 Winston-Salem, NC – Alleggrie Guinn topped 1,000 career points on Tuesday evening as he hit the first field goal of the game in WSSU’s 66-59 overtime victory over Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC as the Rams moved to 19-5 overall en route to improving to 12-1 in the CIAA (6-2 CIAA West) as WSSU clinched the 2005 CIAA Western Division regular-season title.The Rams and Blue Bears battled back and forth for the majority of the game as the two teams finished regulation time deadlocked at 52-52, needing an extra frame to decide the game’s final outcome. Livingstone would score the first field goal in the overtime session as the Rams found themselves trailing by two points, 54-52 with just over four minutes remaining in the overtime period. WSSU would get a lay up from Alleggrie Guinn, and a three-point play from Darnell Gregory to pull ahead for good in the overtime en route to their nineteenth win of the season as the Rams moved to 4-0 in overtime in 2004-05. The Rams would then hit 10 of 11 free-throws as they closed the game’s final three and a half minutes without a field goal as they clinched the CIAA Western Division regular-season title and secured a first-round bye in the upcoming 2005 CIAA men’s basketball championship tournament. WSSU committed only 15 turnovers in the contest as they were below their season average of 16.4 turnovers for the fifth straight contest. The Rams also shot 41.5% from the field as they hit 22 of 53 total field goal attempts. The Rams, winners of ten straight games, have not lost since January 11th, 2005 (at Saint Augustine’s College) as they improve to 19-5 overall and 12-1 in the CIAA. With the win, the Rams move to 6-1 in the CIAA Western Division and have secured the #1 seed in the Western Division for the upcoming CIAA championship. WSSU was led by Terris Sifford and Alleggrie Guinn who each recorded 16 points in the game. Sifford pulled down 10 rebounds in the win as he recorded his first double-double of the season. With his 16-point performance, Alleggrie Guinn now has 1,015 points in his three-year career at WSSU. Sifford and Guinn were joined in double figures by Frank Johnson who recorded 12 points in the contest, going two-for-three from three-point range. Livingstone was led by Olufemi Abiodun who tallied 16 points in a losing effort.
