VSU names Leslie Young as Head Track Coach

December 14, 2004

Virginia State University has hired Leslie Young as the Trojans Head Men’s and Women’s Track Coach. Coach Young comes to the campus of VSU by way of Norfolk State University where he was the Assistant Men’s Track Coach.

Coach Young is very familiar with the CIAA as a student and as a coach. He is a graduate of St. Paul’s College where he coached the Tigers’ track program. Coach Young headed St. Paul’s track program from 1996-1999 and then moved on to Granby High School from 1999-2003 in Norfolk, VA. In 2003, he switched gears to get back into collegiate coaching by becoming the assistant men’s coach at Norfolk State University.

Coach Young has a very enthusiastic approach to rejoining the ranks of the CIAA’s best. “The opportunity to coach track in the CIAA once again is great, however it is a known fact that St. Augustine’s College is a national powerhouse. The only way to compete with them is to have the total commitment from the coach, student-athletes and the administration,” stated Coach Young. “It will take time to build a championship program and it starts with the dedication of the coaching staff,” stated Coach Young.
