THE PRICE IS RIGHT FOR LADY VIKINGS IN ROUT OF WSSU

 

  RALEIGH, NC – Elizabeth City State University freshman Deanna Price made the most of her first appearance in the CIAA Women's Basketball Tournament, amassing a triple-double to pace the Lady Vikings in a 73-59 rout of Winston-Salem State University at the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC.

  Price, a member of the CIAA All-Rookie Team, finished with 11 points and game-highs of 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Three other Lady Vikings tallied double figures in the scoring column, topped by senior Lakisha Johnson's 14 points off the bench. Shaneka Ellis added 12 points and Kristen Snead 10 points and nine boards for ECSU (13-13).

  WSSU (12-14) was led by CIAA Rookie of the Year Shalonda Carter with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her 10 th double-double of the season, while Rutondel Motley added 11 points and Kadina Baldwin 10.

  ECSU's Johnson scored seven points during an 11-0 run midway through the first half to take a 29-14 lead at 7:40. The Lady Vikings posted a 13-4 stretch to close out the half for a commanding 50-28 cushion at the break.

  The Lady Vikings made 60 percent (18-for-30) of their shots from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from three-point range. WSSU, on the other hand, hit just 28 percent (8-for-29) from the field and missed all four three-point attempts.

  ECSU led by as much as 24 points when Snead sank a jumper at 11:51 of the second half to make the score 62-38.

  WSSU got as close as 13 points (72-59) with 2:19 left to play, but the Lady Rams failed to score the rest of the way.

  ECSU will face its former head coach Vanessa Taylor and the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in second round action Tuesday at 1 p.m.
