HARDY
TIES CIAA TOURNAMENT RECORD
RALEIGH, NC- With her
50-point performance in Monday night’s victory over Saint
Augustine’s College, Bowie
State University’s
Allyson Hardy tied the single game scoring record that had stood for 27 years.
Norfolk
State’s Vivian Greene originally
accomplished the feat on February 18, 1977 in the semi-finals of
the
1977 Tournament against Shaw
University. The Spartans
would go on to capture their second CIAA Championship over Winston-Salem State
University, 70-58.
Hardy, a junior guard from Germantown, MD,
has made quite an impact in her three years in the CIAA. In 2002, she was named
CIAA Rookie of the Year and the following year she garnered the honor of 2003
CIAA Player of the Year. She finished this season as the
league’s leading scorer at 21.3 ppg. During the 2003-2004 campaign, Hardy was
named CIAA Player of the Week three times consecutively and was subsequently
voted to the 2004 All-CIAA team.
Now with a 50-point game under her belt, and a scoring
average of 22.4, Hardy and the Lady Bulldogs will face the No.1 seeded Lady
Broncos of Fayetteville
State University
tonight at 7:00.
