WSSU Lady Rams Finish Opening Session Of NCAA Bowling 0-4April 8th, 2004Houston, TX - The competition was fierce on the first day of bowling as the NCAA kicked off the inaugural Women's Bowling Championship at Emerald Bowl in Houston, TX on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Rams, and seven other schools that were chosen as the field of the first-ever championship were, at random, paired against one another in head to head competition that would be used to determine the seedings of day two that will begin on Friday. The Lady Rams found the first session to be a tough one as they turned in a record of 0-4 overall before breaking for dinner at 5:00 pm. WSSU faced the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University in the first match of the day and fell short by the score of 1177 to 781. The loss was overshadowed by NJCU's Jennifer Viens who rolled the first 300 game in the history of the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship. Vienes led the Gothic Knights who improved to 60-33-2 in the victory. WSSU falls to 59-11 on the season, and were led by Lashonda Horton who turned in a team-high 196 for WSSU. Scoring Breakdown:
The Lady Rams found much more success in their next match as they succumbed to a late Lady Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore by the score of 1026 to 852. The Lady Rams were led by Shannon Davis who tallied a 190 game in the loss. Maryland Eastern Shore was led by Victoria Gay with a 223. WSSU falls to 59-12 with the loss while UMES improves to 80-39. The Lady Rams fell to 0-3 in the first session when they fell in defeat to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University by the score of 1117-689. WSSU matched up well versus the Pioneers, but SHU proved to be too strong as they tallied five games of 200 or better en route to the win. The Lady Rams fall to 59-13 on the season and 0-3 in the tournament as they look towards their last match of the session, versus Farleigh Dickinson. Scoring Breakdown:
WSSU rounded out the day as they fell to 0-4 in the first session by dropping a match to the Knights of Farleigh University. The Lady Rams fought valiantly but came up short versus FDU by the score of 1046-768. WSSU, who falls to 59-14 overall was led by Shannon Davis with a 183 while the Knights were led by Elysia Current who rolled a 237 game in the contest. Scoring Breakdown:
