Sports Information Directors Select 2003-04 All-Region Women's Basketball Teams

AIKEN, S.C.--With regular season play and conference tournaments completed, the 2003-04 Daktronics Division II Women’s Basketball South Atlantic All-Region teams have been released. Five of the 10 players selected will be competing in this week’s NCAA Division II Tournament.

Skye Barber (University of North Florida), Crystal Clary (Lenoir-Rhyne College), Denisha Ferguson (Kennesaw State University), Tracy Jacobs (Lander University), and Tasha Washington (Armstrong Atlantic State University) head up the First-Team.

The Second-Team members are: Tiona Beatty (North Carolina Central University), Kiarsha Curtis (Shaw University), Kristi Ferris (Mars Hill College), Allyson Hardy (Bowie State University), and Veronica Taylor (Wingate University).

Barber, a 5-10 senior from Jacksonville, Fla., finished among the top six in scoring (15.8 ppg) and was second in the Peach Belt Conference in rebounding (8.4 rpg). Named First-Team All-Conference, Barber led North Florida to a 24-5 record and a berth in the 2004 NCAA South Atlantic Regional.

Clary, a 6-1 junior center from Hampton, Va., leads the nation in rebounding (12.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (65.6) and is third in Division II in scoring (21.4 ppg). Named South Atlantic All-Conference First-Team, Clary posted 20 double doubles on the season.

Ferguson, a 6-0 senior center from Clarksville, Tenn., was second in the Peach Belt Conference in scoring (20.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg). She was named a four-time PBC Player of the Week as well as the 2004 PBC Player of the Year.

Jacobs, a 5-8 junior guard from Shaker Heights, Ohio, ranked in the top five in scoring (17.9 ppg) and steals (2.7 spg) in the Peach Belt Conference. Named to the First-Team All-Conference squad, Jacobs led Lander to a 24-5 record including the program’s first-ever regular season conference championship and a berth in this week’s NCAA South Atlantic Regional.

Washington, a 5-8 senior guard from Phoenix, Ariz., led the Peach Belt Conference in scoring (21.3 ppg) and in steals (3.8 spg). A four-time PBC Player of the Week, Washington was selected First-Team All-Conference. She scored over 1,000 points in just two seasons at AASU in leading the Lady Pirates to their second-straight appearance in the NCAA South Atlantic Regional.

First-Team selections will now go on the national ballot for All-America consideration.
