Shaw Releases 2004 Football Schedule

Shaw University has announced its 2004 football schedule which is highlighted by six home games. The six home game will be the most that Shaw has played since the 1967 season when they played seven.

Shaw will kickoff the 2004 season on August 28 at Livingstone. Shaw played Livingstone in its opner last year at home and defeated the Blue Bears 44-34. The next five of six games are home games for the Bears. Shaw hosts Johnson C. Smith at John Baker Stadium on September 4. The following week, the Bears travel to Jacksonville, FL to take on Edward Waters in the 3rd Annual Willie E. Gary Classic at Alltel Stadium.

The next three games will be against three of the best teams in the conference over the last two seasons. Shaw will host 2002 and 2003 CIAA Champion Fayetteville State on September 25, Bowie State on October 2 and 2003 CIAA Eastern Division Champion Virginia Union on October 9 for homecoming. Shaw faced these same three teams in succession last year all on the road and lost all three games, but this year all three games will be played in Raleigh. The Fayetteville State and Virginia Union games being played at Trojan Stadium at Garner Senior High School and the Bowie State game being played at Shaw's "home" John Baker Stadium.

Shaw then travels to Elizabeth City State and Virginia State in consecutive weeks, both of whom Shaw defeated at home last year. In the final regular season week, Shaw hosts perinial SIAC power Kentucky State.

The CIAA Championship game will be held on November 6 at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on the campus of North Carolina Central in Durham, NC.

Shaw went 7-3, 4-3 in the CIAA last season, its first season in the NCAA and CIAA in 25 years.
