American Urban Radio Networks Announces 2003 SBN Black College All-American Team

(Pittsburgh, PA, – Southern University and Hampton lead the way with four selections each to the 2003 SBN Black College All-American Team. Southern quarterback Quincy Richard was named the SBN/Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year. Bethune-Cookman defensive lineman Stevie Baggs, Jr. was named SBN/Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year and Southern’s Pete Richardson was named SBN/Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.

Quincy Richard, Southern University, Offensive Player of the Year – The senior quarterback from Opelousas, Louisiana led the Jaguars to an 11-1 regular season, the SWAC Conference Championship and the SBN Black College National Championship. He was fourth in the nation in passing efficiency with 3,270 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was also named Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Stevie Baggs, Jr., Bethune-Cookman, Defensive Player of the Year – The senior defensive end from Orlando, Florida led all of Division 1-AA in tackles for loss with 33 total and ranked fourth in the nation in sacks with 15. The Buck Buchanan Award finalist was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Pete Richardson, Southern University, Coach of the Year – The Youngstown, Ohio native led the Southern Jaguars to their second SBN Black College National Championship during his tenure. His Jaguars were 11-1 in the regular season and finished 2003 with a 20-9 win over Alabama State in the SWAC Championship game.

The 2003 SBN All-American Team will be honored during the 30th SBN Black College All-American Awards, Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the New York Sheraton Hotel and Towers in New York, New York. Black College All-American trophies will be awarded to all of the honorees, and scholarships will be provided to the Black colleges represented by the award winners.
