NCCU's Enoch Headed To NCAA Indoor Track & Field ChampionshipsMarch 3, 2004North Carolina Central University junior Steven Enoch will attempt to earn his fifth All-America honor when he competes in the 2004 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, March 12-13. Enoch, a Burlington, NC native, will be competing in the long jump. The four-time All-American and National Champion heads into next week's competition ranked eighth in the nation in the event with a mark of 23 feet, 11.75 inches. "I expect Steve to earn his fifth All-American honor," said head coach Michael Lawson. "He also has an opportunity to win a national title in this event. He is fresh, he is a veteran, and he wants it real bad. He will rise to the occasion and perform very well." This will be Enoch's first time competing in the long jump at the indoor championships. During the 2002 indoor season, Enoch failed to qualify for the long jump, but did manage to place third in the triple jump. During the 2002 outdoor season, he leaped into a surprising second place finish with a personal-best jump of 25'-8.25". Enoch was also a member of the 2002 National Championship 4x100-meter relay team. Last season an injury kept him out of indoor competition. Enoch returned outdoors to finish eighth at the 2003 NCAA Championships with a bound of 23'-8". Enoch, the lone Eagle to advance to the championships, will take flight on March 12 at 3 p.m. Back to CIAA Online Front Page |
