FSU Tennis Team To Play In National Black College Tournament

June 23, 2004

Fayetteville State University women’s tennis team, the three-time CIAA Champions, will be one of the eight teams invited to participate in the inaugural Legacy National Black College Tennis Tournament to be held at Charlotte’s Jeff Adams Tennis Center October 1 through October 4, 2004. The Lady Broncos were selected based on their 2003 and 2004 successes in the CIAA.

The tournament will showcase talent of the premiere teams from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

The top two teams from each of the conferences will play each other in the four-day extravaganza that include displays, educational activities and job opportunities and the players will have the opportunity to meet tennis celebrities. “We are pleased and honored that the committee picked us to participate in a tournament of this magnitude. It not only gives the players recognition, it also gives all of the teams a chance to advance women’s tennis in their conference,” said Elorine Hill, two-time CIAA Coach of the Year.
