Johnson C. Smith and Fayetteville State Claim Tennis Titles AgainApril 26, 2003
Charlotte, NC-The rain proved an annoyance for the participants in this year's 2003 CIAA Women's and Men's Tennis Championships. While play was forced indoors due to inclement weather on Friday and Saturday, teams and players alike focused on the objective at hand. The men's five time champion is the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University, and two time champion for the women is the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University claiming the respective CIAA Tennis Championship for 2003. Unlike last year, the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University had very stiff competition from Shaw University. Despite Ada Lopez defeating Mary Cherry 6-2, 6-0, the Lady Broncos won five out of six singles matches to claim the trophy. Lopez was named women's MVP.
