Track and Field Championships Off To Wet Start

Day 1 Results

After a rain-soaked day one of events at the 2003 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Patrick Wright of Livingstone College captured the only conference title of the afternoon by winning the shot put at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.

Wright's winning toss of 45-feet, 4.75 inches, along with Dequincey Smith's fifth place effort (40' 7.5"), put Livingstone atop the men's standings with 14 points after one event during day one competition. Virginia State University is in second place with 11 points, followed by Virginia Union University with eight points.

All other field events scheduled for Friday were postponed until Saturday at 9 a.m. Running events will begin as scheduled at 12 noon.
