The CIAA Announces the Coach of the Year and Pairings for the 2003 Basketball Tournament

Raleigh, NC…The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Moses Gollatt of Virginia Union University as the Women's Basketball Coach of the Year and Phil Spence of North Carolina Central University, Men's Coach of the Year, as selected by the CIAA Executive Committee.

Gollatt, in the second year of his second term with the Lady Panthers, rose from a 6th place finish in 2001-02 to a 1st place seed in the East entering this year's tournament. The 7-3, 10-6, 18-8 Lady Panthers will relax with a BYE on Monday, in prep for their 1:00pm game against the victor of the JCSU vs ECSU match-up at 1:00pm tomorrow.

Up from a 4th place finish in the West last season, Phil Spence took the Western Division regular season title as the top seed for this year's tournament. The 8-2, 10-6, 15-12 Eagles will play the victor of the SPC vs FSU game at 1:00pm.

The CIAA has released its pairings for the 2003 Basketball Tournament as determined by the CIAA Tournament Committee.
