Baseball Tournament Field Narrows

Petersburg, VA-In the first elimination game of the 2003 CIAA Baseball Tournament, the defending champion Bears of Shaw University lost their first game to their cross-town rival Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College, 7-5. However the Bears will play another day, as they turned it around with a 5-3 victory over the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University.

The Vikings become the first team to be ousted in the double-elimination tournament as they dropped a 10-4 decision to the Virginia State University Trojans earlier in the day at the Petersburg Sports Complex.

Friday’s games will pit the Falcons (11-21) against the host Trojans (18-16) at 10:00am. The winner will advance to championship Saturday while the loser will face Shaw University (19-15) at 12:00pm. Both games will take place at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.
