Colgate-Palmolive Honors Scholar-Athlete TeamJanuary 26, 2002The CIAA had five representatives named to the Scholar-Athlete team by Colgate-Palmolive Company and Urban Sports & Entertainment Group this year. The winners were introduced at the annual Speed Stick Eddie Robinson Awards dinner in Atlanta, GA, January 18, 2002. Andregus Holmes, a third year student at Fayetteville State, maintains a 3.61 GPA as a Political Science major. The All-CIAA wide receiver is a member of the Coca-Cola All- Academic Football Team. Holmes is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society. Latasha Ham, a junior softball player at Fayetteville State, holds a 3.5 GPA and is a Computer Science major with a minor in math. Jasun L. Thompson, a senior quarterback at Virginia Union, boasts a 3.3 GPA as a Business Management major. Lauren M. Scott, a junior tennis player at Johnson C. Smith, has a 3.72 GPA as a double major of Business Management and Marketing. Derrick Barbee, a senior baseball player at St. Augustine's College. This pitcher is a Math major and has a 3.4 GPA. The scholar-athletes were selected from Historically Black College and Universities throughout the country in recognition of their academic, civic and athletic achievements. Colgate-Palmolive will donate $4000 to the athletic scholarship fund at each of the winner's college or university. Awardees must have participated in intercollegiate athletics for at least two years and demonstrated active involvement in their community and in civic service activities while maintaining a 3.25 grade-point-average.
