Saint Augustine's College Cheerleaders bring cheer to Children at Wake Med

December 6, 2001

Raleigh, N.C. - The Saint Augustine's College Cheerleaders, also known as the Blue Chips, will visit the Wake Medical Center Pediatric Unit to spread a little holiday cheer to the children Friday, December 7, at 2 p.m.

Cheerleading Advisor Sheryl Ximines said the 12-member team will read Christmas stories, sing carols, play and talk one-on-one with the children.

"I decided they should visit the kids at a time when they most need it since many have long-term illnesses," Ximines said. "I hope the Blue Chips will make the holidays brighter for them. It's another way of cheerleading."

In addition to performing at Saint Augustine's basketball games, the cheerleading squad participates in numerous service projects for the community throughout the year.
