Livingstone Selects Familiar Face for Head Men’s Basketball Coach

SALISBURY, NC – Livingstone College has filled its vacant basketball position by promoting Westley F. Gillum Jr. from assistant men’s basketball coach to head men’s basketball coach. Gillum served the past two seasons at Livingstone under former coach Edward Joyner.

Prior to joining the staff at Livingstone College, Gillum was the head coach of the men’s basketball and cross-country team and head women’s cross-country at Dillard University in New Orleans, La. He coached a 33-13 two-season record. Gillum headed the boys’ basketball team at Saint Martinville Junior High School before Dillard.

Gillum entered the coaching ranks at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, where he served as the men’s and women’s assistant basketball coach. In 1996, he took over the head women’s position for the remaining ten games of the season. Under his temporary direction, the Delgado women finished 8-2.

Coach Gillum played collegiate basketball as a 2-guard at Central College in McPherson, KS and at Southern University.

Gillum, a native of Lafayette, La., earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education / Recreation from Southern University at New Orleans in 1995. He is currently working toward a master’s in Sports Management from the University of New Orleans. Gillum is married to Nerissa LoeBlanc Gillum and they are the proud parents of 11-year-old daughter Raven Gillum.
