2002 CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team AnnouncedMay 14, 2002 HAMPTON, VA -- Twenty student-athletes from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association have been named to the fifth annual CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Team. "Our student-athletes carry two torches, one represents academics and the other athletics," said CIAA Commissioner Leon G. Kerry. "Each one of these students has proven to balance the two, to become a true champion."The 2002 CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Team consists of 20 student-athletes, 10 on the First Team and 10 on the Second Team, as voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors’ Association. The average grade point average of the First Team is a 3.889, and the average for the Second Team is a 3.697 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). The 2002 CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic First Team consists of Candice Ginsberg of Bowie State; Gerald Gayle of Livingstone; Ria Bazie, Katerina Glosova, Rhonda Lee, Lanelle Turner and Rachelle Zastoupil of North Carolina Central; Nijea N. Rich of Saint Paul’s; and Shawn Alexander and Aaron Federspiel of Winston-Salem State. The 2002 CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Second Team includes Felicia Smith of Bowie State; Sharon Gorganni of Elizabeth City State; Roshawnnah Clark, Latashia Ham and Andregus Holmes of Fayetteville State; Misha Johnson of North Carolina Central; Katrina Johnson of Saint Augustine’s; Van Williams of Shaw; Shawanda Brown of Virginia State; and Katherine Wade of Virginia Union. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at a CIAA institution, earned a minimum 3.20 overall grade point average, and played as a starter or important reserve in a CIAA sanctioned sport. 2002 CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team
