Raleigh, NC É After the end of the second day of play for the 2001 CIAA Softball Tournament, the competition stepped up as teams held on to their vision of carrying home the 2001 crown. After shutting down Virginia State yesterday, Winston-Salem State returned bright and early to take out their second opponent, Virginia Union, 16-4.
Meanwhile, across the Walnut Creek Softball Complex, Shaw University edged out Fayetteville State with a tough 5-3 victory, sending them to battle Winston-Salem State for the Championship game on Saturday at 2:00pm.
The afternoon brought doom to some and celebration to others as Fayetteville State reined over Saint Augustine's, 11-4 and North Carolina Central squeezed by Virginia Union, 7-6.
The evening match-up between Shaw University and Winston-Salem State proved who was the toughest of the two Division Champions, where the Lady Rams ran over the Lady Bears, 5-0. Finishing the day, Fayetteville slips by the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles, 9-8.
Tomorrow's game versus Shaw University and Fayetteville State begins at 10:00am with the Championship game, Winston-Salem vs the Victor of the 10:00 am game, following at 2:00pm.
