NCCU Volleyball Signs Two Recruits

June 21, 2001

DURHAM, NC -- North Carolina Central University head coach Ingrid Wicker has added two student-athletes to the 2001 Lady Eagle volleyball roster.

LaCina Clayton, a 5-10 outside hitter from Fayetteville, NC, earned Mid-South All-Conference First Team honors and was named Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year as a two-sport (volleyball and basketball) standout at E.E. Smith High School. Clayton served as team captain for three seasons and was voted as the Team Most Valuable Player as a senior.

"LaCina is coming into the program with prior junior Olympic experience, which will enable her to contribute immediately," said Wicker, entering her eighth season as head mentor. "Her strength right now is her back court game, including passing and defense."

Ashley McNeil, a 5-11 middle hitter from Autryville, NC, was selected Carolina 1-A All-Conference Honorable Mention as a senior at Midway High School in Dunn, NC. McNeil also played basketball at Midway, earning all-conference and NCHSAA Regional All-Tournament Team honors.

"Ashley has great natural athletic ability, and will be able to help out at the middle position," Wicker said. "She is very aggressive and extremely coachable."
