Saint Augustine's College has returned to the throne in Division II Track and Field by sweeping both the men's and women's championships at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Edwardsville, IL.
The Lady Falcons exploded for 80 points on the final day to successfully defend their title - their third in the last five years. The Falcon men captured their ninth championship in 13 years, outpointing second-place Abilene Christian, 80-59.
Tim Rusan was the top performer for the St. Aug men contributing 25 points. He won both the triple jump and long jump and ran the third leg on the fourth place 4X100 relay team. St. Aug also won the 1600 meter relay. The Falcons scored half of their 80 points in two field events thanks to a 1-2-5 finish in the triple jump (Rusan, Dane Maglorie & Cleveland McClory) and 1-4-6 placement in the long jump (Rusan, Maurice English & Maglorie).
They finished no lower than fourth in five events on Saturday including second-place finishes by Marquis Davis in both the 100M and 200M dash.
Stephan Demeritte finished 4th in the 400M dash.
Ednol Rolle was fifth in the 400M hurdles.
Leading the Lady Falcon performance was Kia Davis. She finished first in the 100M hurdles and 200M dash in addition to running the third leg on the winning 400M relay team. She also ran the first leg on the second-place 4X400M Relay team.

Florencia Hunt finished second in the 800M run and ran the anchor leg on the 4X400M relay team that closed out the day with a second-place finish.
Samaiya Islam and Lakeya Williams finished third and fourth in the 100M hurdles.
Shakirah Rutherford grabbed fourth place in the 400M dash.
Charlene Cummings finished eighth in the 100M dash.
The CIAA claimed the three fastest men in Division II Outdoor track as N.C. Central's Jason Smoots edged Saint Aug's freshman Davis and Livingstone College freshman Jordan Vaden (10.34) to finish 1-2-3 in the men's 100M dash.
Smoots is now the reigning national champion of the indoor 55M dash and outdoor 100M dash. Last year as a freshman, Smoots finished third in both events to earn All-America honors.
NCCU junior Kennisha Moten earned her first individual All-America honors in the 400m dash. The Fayetteville, NC native entered the national championship meet with the 12th fastest time in Division II, but stepped up to the challenge to place seventh in the finals with a time of 57.14.
Virginia State's Derrick Blount finished 6th in the 110M hurdles finals.
Livingstone's 4X100M men's relay team finished eighth in the finals of the event.
Overall, 26 CIAA participants earned All-America status at the event.
