(PETERSBURG,VA) - Day one of the 2001 CIAA Baseball Tournament saw the Vikings of Elizabeth City drop a 6-2 decision to Shaw University, but bounce back against Saint Paul's College pummeling the Tigers 15-1 at the Petersburg Sports Complex in Petersburg, VA. The Vikings will get a chance to avenge their loss to Shaw as the Bears were defeated 10-6 by their cross town rivals,the Falcons of Saint Augustine's. The rematch, scheduled for Friday at 10:00 am, will decide who will advance for a chance to play for the CIAA Baseball crown.
Saint Augustine's College went a perfect 2-0 defeating Saint Paul's 18-2 and Shaw 10-6 on the campus of Virginia State University. The Falcons will take on the host Trojans at 12 noon on Friday. The defending CIAA Champions will take the field for the first time in tournament as a result of their first round bye. The winner of this match-up will automatically secure a spot in Saturday's championship game. The loser will meet the winner of the Elizabeth City/Shaw game at 3:00 pm on Friday for their chance at CIAA glory.
All games will be played at Whaley Colbert Field on the campus of Virginia State University.
